The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a major prize-giving event nears, one notices an outcry to include of new categories to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types effectively encompass a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored in 2021
  • Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
